🇮🇹 Il 26 novembre si terrà a Avigliano (PZ) lo show della New Wrestling Generation, una nuova realtà nel professional wrestling italiano che ha sede in Basilicata e per l’occasione la compagnia ha deciso di organizzare un torneo con quattro wrestler per assegnare l’NWG Women’s Championship. A contendersi la cintura sono le due italiane Domiziana Roy e Laura Wild, ma anche due wrestler straniere che rispondono al nome di Amira e Darcy Stone. Ed è proprio quest’ultima che oggi è qui ospite sul nostro blog per un’intervista esclusiva.
Senza perdere troppo tempo, ecco l’intervista con Darcy Stone fatta dalla fondatrice del blog Rachele Gagliardi, con la collaborazione di due esperti e appassionati di wrestling giapponese (e poi capirete perché), Aurora “Komorebi” Petrucci, autrice della nostra rubrica Joshi Sakè, e Emanuele “Cuky” Cucurnia, che ha già collaborato con il blog nei vari tributi a Hana Kimura.

🇬🇧 The New Wrestling Generation show will take place on November 26th in Avigliano (PZ). The NWG is based in Basilicata and it’s a relatively new entry in the Italian pro wrestling scene, so for the occasion the company has decided to arrange a tournament in which 4 wrestlers will battle it out to win the NWG Women’s Championship. Two Italian wrestlers, Domiziana Roy and Lara Wild, and two foreign wrestlers, Amira and Darcy Stone, will compete for the championship.
It’s an honor for me today to welcome Darcy on this blog for an exclusive interview, in which I had the pleasure of collaborating with two friends, Aurora “Komorebi” Petrucci and Emanuele “Cuky” Cucurnia, who are Japanese wrestling experts and enthusiasts (later on you’ll understand why I asked them to participate in today’s interview).

🇮🇹 Sappiamo che hai iniziato da poco a lottare e che hai un passato come idol. Come mai hai deciso di iniziare a fare wrestling?/🇬🇧 We know that you’ve started wrestling not long ago and that earlier in your career you were an idol. How did you decide to make the switch to wrestling?
Darcy Stone: 🇮🇹 Ballavo e recitavo come professionista da anni, ma non mi sembrava abbastanza per me. Mi sono presa una pausa per prendermi cura di mia madre malata che è tragicamente scomparsa all’inizio del 2017. Ho iniziato ad allenarmi nel wrestling un mese dopo e ho scoperto che proprio quello era la miglior terapia per me. Potevo usare le abilità che avevo nella danza e nella recitazione e spingere il mio corpo al limite allo stesso tempo./🇬🇧 I had been dancing and acting professionally for years but it never seemed enough for me. I took some time off to take care of my sick mother who sadly passed away at the start of 2017. I started wrestling training a month later and found it was that it was the best therapy for me. I could use the skills I had from dance and acting and push my body to the limits at the same time.
🇮🇹 Quali sono gli altri wrestler, uomini e donne a cui ti ispiri di più?/ 🇬🇧 Which male and female wrestlers are your biggest inspirations?
Darcy Stone: 🇮🇹 Sono cambiati molto da quando ero una bambina, ma rimanevo sempre affascinata da Eddie Guerrero, Brett Hart e Kurt Angle. Mentre crescevo e imparavo sempre di più sul wrestling, ho sempre visto Meiko Satomura e Emi Sakura come i miei idoli più grandi./ 🇬🇧They have changed a lot since I was a child, but I was always in awe of Eddie Guerrero, Brett Hart and Kurt Angle. As I’ve grown older and learnt more about wrestling I have always seen Meiko Satomura and Emi Sakura as my biggest idols.
🇮🇹 Quale avversaria hai preferito affrontare fino ad ora nel tuo percorso sul ring?/🇬🇧Who has been your favorite opponent on the ring so far?
Darcy Stone: 🇮🇹 La mia avversaria preferita è probabilmente Emi Sakura. Mi stavo esibendo in Giappone seguendo i suoi insegnamento e lei mi ha sorpresa la notte prima del mio rientro a casa con un match contro di lei. Avevo così paura di deluderla, ma il match è stato molto divertente e sicuramente un punto importante della mia carriera. /🇬🇧 My favourite opponent is probably Emi Sakura. I was performing in Japan under her teaching and she surprised me the night before I went home with a match against her. I was so scared that I would let her down, but the match was so much fun and definitely a career highlight.
🇮🇹 Hai lottato sia in Giappone che in Inghilterra e tra poco debutterai in Italia per lo show della New Wrestling Generation. Cosa ti aspetti da questa esperienza?/🇬🇧You have wrestled both in Japan and England, and shortly you will make your debut in Italy with New Wrestling Generation. Do you have any expectations for this experience?
Darcy Stone: 🇮🇹Sono così emozionare di viaggiare verso l’Italia e mostrare alla NWG di che pasta è fatta Darcy. È emozionante perché i fans non sanno cosa aspettarsi e io combatterò contro donne con cui non ho mai lottato prima. È un match per il titolo quindi ho bisogno di dare il 100%!/🇬🇧 I am so excited to travel to Italy and show NWG what Darcy is made of. It’s exciting because the fans don’t know what to expect and I am fighting women who I have never fought before. It is a championship match so I need to give it 100%!
🇮🇹 Pensi che la cultura pop, sia quella contemporanea sia quella degli anni Novanta/inizi anni Duemila, influisca nell’idea di un character per un wrestler? Su di te quanto ha influito e che suggerimenti ti ha dato?/🇬🇧Do you feel like pop culture, from the 90s/early 2000s ‘til now, can be an influence for building a character in wrestling? How much did it influence you and what did you take from it?
Darcy Stone: 🇮🇹Penso che tu possa farti influenzare da quasi ogni cosa per costruire un personaggio. I miei mentori mi hanno sempre detto che usi la tua naturale personalità e la trasformi facendo salire il livello a 100. Molti di noi hanno hobby e interessi che possono essere plasmati in un personaggio. Darcy è fortemente influenzata da Rainbow Mika di Street Fighter, Misa Amane del Death Note e anche Darcy Bussel, la prima ballerina d’Inghilterra. Possiamo usare le cose che amiamo per migliorare chi siamo./🇬🇧 I think you can take influence from almost anything to build a character. I was always told by my mentors that you use your own natural personality and turn the level up to 100. Many of us have hobbies or interests that can be moulded into a character. Darcy is heavily influenced by Rainbow Mika from Street Fighter, Misa Amane from Death Note and also Darcy Bussell, the English prime ballerina. We can use the things we love to enhance who we are.
🇮🇹 Cos’è per te il wrestling femminile?/🇬🇧What is women’s wrestling to you?
Darcy Stone: 🇮🇹 Il wrestling femminile è una battaglia costante. Abbiamo avuto l’età d’oro della fine degli anni ’80 e primi anni ’90, dove le donne come Aja Kong e Manami Toyota stavano distruggendo gli stereotipi in tutto il Giappone, poi abbiamo avuto la classica Divas Era in WWE. Ora sento che il wrestling femminile sta crescendo e si sta evolvendo. Ora siamo rispettate più come lottatrici, ma la battaglia non è finita. Sono fortunata ad essere circondata da tante donne di talento e ambiziose nella mia carriera e ho fiducia che il futuro del wrestling femminile sia brillante. /🇬🇧 Women’s wrestling is a constant battle. We had the golden age of the late 80’s and early 90’s where women such as Aja Kong and Manami Toyota were destroying stereotypes over in Japan, then we had the classic Diva era in WWE. Now I feel that women’s wrestling is growing and evolving. We are respected more as wrestlers now, but the fight is not over. I am lucky to be surrounded by so many talented and ambitious women in my career, and I have faith that the future of women’s wrestling is bright.
